Surface preparation
Painted surface will need no further preparations so long as the paint work is sound
For applying to plasterboard the surface will need to be primed with a pva primer first
For absorbent/porous surfaces the wall will also have to be primed with a pva primer before application
Brush off the area to be wallpapered with a stiff brush to remove all dirt and loose material
All surface marks should be removed using a detergent solution
Allow to dry thoroughly before applying adhesive
Any holes cracks or defects in the surface need to be repaired using a good quality filler smoothed out and allowed to dry
Remember the surface needs to be dry, if you have to make repairs be patient and allow the surface to dry.
Hanging your wallpaper
You will need a decorator’s sponge to wet the wallpaper, a sharp knife for trimming, a soft plastic wallpaper spatula for smoothing the wallpaper. A steel straight edge to aid trimming of the paper.
Ensure the area you are working in is clean, and you have enough space to work effectively.
Wet the back of the material using clean water and a decorator’s sponge ensuring it is evenly wet. Fold the top to bottom and allow to soak for 15 minutes before hanging.
Apply undiluted pva based adhesive to the surface to be wallpapered using a medium pile paint roller. Only paste one drop area at a time.
Use a soft spatula to apply your wallpaper to the prepared surface using a smooth up and down motion. Take care not to squeeze the adhesive out at the edges.
Let the wallpaper settle for 15minutes before trimming the top and bottom.
Avoid getting glue on the printed surface but if you do just immediately wipe it with a damp cloth.
Overlap joints
Your wallpaper joints will overlap; take care when applying to ensure you get a good image match. Once the wallpaper drops have been hung, using a sharp knife and steel guide a cut should be made down the overlap the excess material can then be removed and joint smoothed with your spatula, this will create a seamless finish to your wall. This method id recommended when wallpaper is being hung by a professional decorator.
Butt joints
This is a much easier method to hang your wallpaper although the finished joint may not be as seamless as the overlap method. When hanging your paper with butt joints simply align the image and smooth your wallpaper to the surface working away from the joint.
Removing your wallpaper
Soak or steam to remove your wallpaper in the traditional manner.
Some cropping of images may occur when enlarging images to fit some sizes where this has a significant effect on the finished image you will be contacted to approve your order
